Jewellery Care

Each piece from SAW Atelier is handmade with care. With proper wear and storage, your jewellery can be enjoyed for many years. Below are a few simple tips to help you care for your piece.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver will naturally oxidise and darken over time when exposed to air, moisture, skin oils, and everyday wear. This is a normal characteristic of silver.

To care for your silver jewellery:

  • wear it regularly, as gentle wear can help slow tarnishing

  • store it in a soft pouch or jewellery box when not in use

  • wipe it gently with a soft polishing cloth

  • if needed, clean it carefully with warm water and a soft toothbrush

For more noticeable tarnish, you may soak the piece briefly in warm water with a small amount of baking soda and a sheet of aluminium foil, then gently rinse and dry it well.

Gold Jewellery

Gold jewellery generally requires less maintenance than silver, but it should still be handled with care.

To keep your gold jewellery in good condition:

  • store it separately to avoid scratches

  • clean it gently with warm water and a soft cloth

  • avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive materials

Surface Finishes

Some pieces may feature special surface finishes, textures, oxidation, or other hand-applied treatments. These finishes may change gradually over time through wear, skin contact, and polishing.

This is a natural part of the life of handmade jewellery. If needed, refinishing or restoration may be available for some pieces for a small fee.

Gemstones and Delicate Details

Just so you know, gemstones are not indestructible, and some materials require more care than others. Softer stones, pearls, and fine surface details should be handled gently and protected from impact.

Avoid dropping your jewellery or storing it together with harder objects.

Please Avoid Wearing Jewellery During

To help preserve the condition of your jewellery, we recommend removing it during:

  • exercise and physical activity

  • housework and heavy cleaning

  • sleeping

  • showering or swimming

  • applying perfume, lotion, or makeup

As a general rule, it is best to put your jewellery on last before leaving the house, and remove it first when you return home.
